"Platero
y yo" is the best known and loved and most translated work
by the great Spanish poet Juan Ramòn Jimenés, Nobel Prize
winner for literature in 1956. "Platero y yo" is a poignant
book full of light and colour which tells the story of the
friendship between the poet and his little donkey Platero.
In "Platero y yo" the poetic quality of the narrative equals
that of the most important pieces by the author. Simple
and engaging, this production is aimed at young children
whom Juan Ramòn Jimenés himself described as an "Island
of grace, freshness and happiness".

"Platero
y yo" revisits the fundamental themes of the poet's work
and highlights its pictorial and visual features through
skilfully interpreted shadow theatre. The tender and careful
interplay between the actors conveys the delicate relationship
between the poet and his very human donkey. The production
is not merely the performance of the story, it is rather
the representation of the poetry through images and music:
the poetry of Juan Ramòn Jimenés having been defined by
many as "beauty without adornment".
